Samhain, the Witch’s Halloween, is a magical time of year when we connect with the spirits of the divine, the land, and our ancestors. Samhain isn’t just a single day; it’s a season, a time to celebrate the abundance of autumn and pay tribute to those who came before us. So first I would like you to take a walk in the world and collect some seeds from the trees and bushes that provide them at this Halloween time.
Sweet Chestnuts and Seed Energy:
My path leads to the Sweet Chestnut trees, where thousands of chestnuts have fallen. It is the Spanish Chestnut that is known as the Tree of Life, for a large and fruitful tree could support a small village through the tough times of winter when food is scarce and so I have chosen to use a few of these for my upcoming Samhain ritual. Seeds have an incredibly strong and almost explosive energy. It is true that from a small acorn do mighty oaks grow and it is for this reason that Seeds are the key element in this ritual to honor the ancestors.
Setting the Stage:
It is important to cleanse your working area through smoke cleansing and intention setting, as this will ensure that no negative forces are here to skew our honouring. I use incense sticks to cleanse and then cast a circle about the space for my ‘Greatest and Highest Good”. This will help the ritual come together properly and ensure that all is well. Placing the seeds upon the altar that you have prepared, call out to the ancestors to come and accept the offering that you have given them, they will gratefully accept and be there for your benefit help.
